Chinese Stroke Support Group

Purpose

The Chinese Stroke Support Group exists to support a healthy, vibrant, inclusive, and diverse community that will last a lifetime. We are a team of volunteers envisioned with a powerful passion for creating and reinvigorating seniors with long-term information about their health, sharing their stories and being exposed to opportunities to engage within their local community.

Our Mission

With the rapid growth of the old age population, sustaining good health and participation is integral to strengthen communities and help families thrive. Many multicultural seniors are affected by health conditions such as strokes or have a lack of social support to engage with their neighbours. Due to language barriers, they also face difficulty assessing the services they need.

The Chinese Stroke Support Group, a non-profit, lives today to empower seniors with education and inclusiveness.

Helping seniors make informed decisions about their own lives and increase their confidence to live independently is a goal we always strive to achieve. Each month, our team regularly carries out various health seminars, providing the latest health advice and medical information-sharing resources. Gatherings are held for physical exercises, cultural events, and birthday celebrations for our members. We additionally conduct extensive activities to help the multicultural community navigate around the Victoria system, offering advice and materials that will assist in their day-to-day life. By encouraging residents to participate in fitness activities, we also promote interpersonal communication and eliminate barriers to social life.

For more than five years, the Chinese Stroke Support Group has been a trusted partner to local councils and leading health organisations like Stroke Foundation and Diabetes Victoria. It is a privilege to be able to work alongside them to shape the senior community in Melbourne.

We are also proud to be winners the ‘Community Achievement Award of 2020’ presented by the City of Whitehorse.
